Making Martha Stewart Proud

I think it is only fitting that I explain the importance of Martha Stewart in my life. Although she is not a motherly figure I would strive to be, her organizational, creative and her cooking skills are ones I am envious of! I know that probably half the ideas she has are not her own, but a meek employee's who is just trying to get their ideas out there. Nether the less Martha Stewart is the "mother" of America while Opera is our "grandma." Both have been equally influential in our every day American lives. I grew up watching Martha turn a rubber band into the most beautiful Easter egg extravaganza. That is why this week turned into bake my way into becoming more like Martha Stewart. That and the fact that Travis politely brought up that I NEVER cook anymore. He is unfortunately correct! Every since I started work a mere month ago my meal making has been...well...pathetic. So my mission of making myself more like Martha began in high gear.

First I searched the web looking for easy yet delicious meals to win the heart of my husband. I worked on the grocery list and went and bought all the groceries. All new recipes....this could be a week of good eating or a lot of ordering pizza!!!

Monday was home made chicken pot pies with pears and a homemade berry cobbler. I am happy to say it was delicious!!! Martha would have been proud and who knows my potpie could have made it into one of her magazines! Travis was VERY happy!!
Tuesday: Greek Pasta Salad with an appetizer of spinach artichoke dip:) ...Again Travis was VERY happy!
Wednesday: Pork roast with a twist. It was a pork that melted in your mouth with hearty vegetables to top it off. Travis was happy!
Thursday: Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken over a bake potato! It was a success...and Travis was happy!!

Friday we are going out to a Hail and Fair well with the Army so I get the night off! I have loved cooking and watching Travis's face when he takes the first bit and when he asked for seconds!! My mission has been a success and Martha and me have a little more in common:)

  1. Great job Martha! Everything sounded so good I have tried to cook more this week but nothing like you no real planning.
I did make Robin's barley soup and it was yummy.

  2. Where do you go online for recipes? We found a crock pot online blog. You should try this receipe: http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2008/11/salsa-chicken-and-black-bean-soup.html We did it last week and it was DELICIOUS! We used canned black beans though instead of the hard ones and we did do the blending of two cups of the soup at the end. I highly recommend it.

Let me know what websites you use since I am always looking for new spots to find recipes:)

Oh, and if you peruse other recipes on this site, do NOT try the Orange Chicken. We did, and it was a failure. No orange chicken compares to Panda Express. Sad, but true.

  3. Lauren and Jeff...
I am a huge fan of allrecipes.com It is amazing. People try the recipes and then vote on them so you know if they are good or not. I also recommend using the recipe box. It is a great website and everything I have used with the recommendations that people make...which you find below the recipes...has never done me wrong! Hope you love it as much as I do!!! I can't wait to use the website you gave me because the crock pot was the biggest invention to help working women!

  4. Careful or Travis might pick up that "Honeymoon 15"! I almost did. Good thing I was 'gone' on training and such for almost half our first year of marriage. LOL
I look forward to hearing (reading) about your Hail and Farewell. Was this your first since getting married? I love that about the Army, friends coming and going.

  5. Well the Hail and Farewell was a bust!!! Big time. We went to Double D's in Deridder and it took two hours for Travis to get his food and I just told them to forget mine. Not because I was upset. They had a huge work load thrown on them with all of us showing up, I wasn't feeling very well and so it was an easy pass. This is our second Hail and Farewell T and I have been to. Our first one was at Cecile's. I am sure we will be to many more. It nice to put faces with names, meet spouses and hold babies:)
